Keiko Abe Keiko Abe is the legendary marimbist.
She has the ability to merge with her marimba: the resulting union produces music with incredible depth of feeling. She represents a perfect combination of virtuoso technique and passionate artistry.
Her transformative expressivity, combined with her intense concentration, has created a unique and highly artistic world of the marimba. And she has garnered immense praise and status as an artist who has left her mark on music history, receiving acclaim all over the world.
She commands an overwhelming repertoire and appears regularly throughout the world in performances of solo concertos, chamber music, and improvisations. She is also in demand as a guest lecturer and has given master classes in more than 110 leading music conservatories in North America, Central and South America, Europe, and Asia. In addition, she has served on juries for international competitions around the world, including the Geneva and Munich International Music Competitions.
She has also been passionate about the development of the marimba, and her legendary achievement is the completion of the modern 5-octave marimba. By both pioneering new technical skills and expanding the literature, She has transformed what was once considered a primitive “Folk” instrument into a full-fledged concert instrument welcome in any of the most prestigious concert halls.
She is the first woman in the world to be inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame and has received numerous awards, including the Fine Arts Festival Award (six times) and the Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Award, Government of Japan.
Her compositions have become the standards of marimba literature and can be heard in recitals by marimbists all over the world. Many modern composers have also dedicated new works to her, and she has inspired and premiered countless new compositions.
She has written over 110 compositions and world premiered over 185 compositions, commissioned more than 70 pieces, performed at more than 60 major international music festivals, and released more than 50 CDs, DVDs, and video titles.
She is a professor at Toho Gakuen school of music, and guest professor at Nagoya music college.

女性として世界で初めてPASの殿堂入りを果たしたほか、文化庁芸術祭優秀賞(6回)、文化庁長官表彰など、受賞歴は数多い。 彼女が作曲した作品はマリンバの世界にとってのスタンダードとなり、世界中のマリンビストのリサイタルで聴くことができる。 また、多くの現代作曲家が彼女に新作を提供し、数え切れないほどの作品にインスピレーションを与え、初演も行ってきた。
自作品110曲以上、世界初演した作品185曲以上、委嘱作品70曲以上、出演したおもな国際音楽祭は60を超え、発売されたCD、DVD、ビデオタイトルは50以上。

Gordon Stout is Professor Emeritus at the School of Music, Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y., where he taught from 1980 through 2019. A composer as well as percussionist who specializes on marimba, he has studied composition with Joseph Schwantner, Samuel Adler and Warren Benson, and percussion with James Salmon and John Beck.
Many of his compositions for marimba are published, and have already become standard repertoire for marimbists world-wide. A frequent lecture-recitalist for the Percussive Arts Society, he has appeared at more than a dozen International PAS Conventions to date as featured marimbist, as well as throughout the United States and Canada, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Hungary, Bulgaria, Mexico, Denmark, Puerto Rico, Italy, Greece, and Spain.. In May of 1983 he performed clinics and recitals in France, Germany, Holland and Belgium with „transcendental virtuosity“ being described as „the Rubinstein of all aspects of the marimba“.
Gordon has been on the Jury of seven different international marimba competitions. On new years day in 2006 he conducted a 100 person marimba orchestra in the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan as part of the Taiwan International Percussion Convention. His composition „New York Triptych“ for marimba orchestra, was commissioned by and written for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Percussive Arts Society, premiered at PASIC 2011 in Indianapolis, IN. He has also conducted marimba orchestras in Australia, Croatia, and throughout the United States. Most recently he conducted a marimba orchestra of 75 persons on 120 marimbas at Kutztown University in PA in November of 2015.
Gordon was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in November of 2012. Gordon Stout owns and plays a marimba manufactured by DeMorrow Instruments (www.demorrowinstruments.com). In 2019 his newest venture was launched: G&C Music, which will be the new home of Full Circle Publications and StoutWorks.
