Marimbist Fumito Nunoya is gaining recognition internationally as one of today’s leading marimbists. Born in Odate, Japan (a small city in Akita Prefecture), he currently lives in Kreis Herford, Germany. He actively performs in Germany and Japan as Adams Marimba Artist. An interview with Nunoya was the cover story of the May 2012 issue of Percussive Notes magazine. He has been described as “magnetic … impressive” (Houston Chronicle) and “agile and terrifically talented” (Boston Herald). His repertoire includes a range of solo and chamber works for marimba, as well as adaptations of Bach, Piazzolla, Japanese folk music, Ennio Morricone and more. As a concerto soloist, Mr. Nunoya has appeared with the Houston Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, and The Boston Conservatory Orchestra (USA); the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra and Atorion Chamber Orchestra (Japan); OWL Kammerphilharmonie Minden, Bartholdy-Ensemble Rheinfelden (Germany); and Di Repercussio Ensemble percussioni dell’Istituto Peri (Italy).
Sauti Duo
Magdalena Myrczik – Poland / Spain, David Almagro Garcia – Spain
Repertoire:
Jose Manuel López López: African Winds II
Raquel García Tomás: Shadja
Raymond Flores: Title to be defined (Sauti Duo commission)
Alina Dzięcioł: Change (Sauti Duo commission)
Sauti Duo, created by Magdalena Myrczik and David Almagro at the end of 2018, emerged as a synergy between two performers with a primary focus on the richness of sounds (sauti in Swahili) and timbres of percussion instruments. They perform both arrangements of works by classical and modern composers as well as original contemporary pieces for these instruments. Beyond artistic values, the young duo aims to convey important messages through their music. One of their interests is promoting modern and contemporary music (especially from their countries of origin), which has led them to establish contact with composers such as José Manuel López López, Mateusz Ryczek, Andrew Thomas, Fran Barajas, and Alina Dzieciol for both artistic and pedagogical projects. Notable collaborations include their partnership with Morgan Mallets, a brand that sponsors them and has led them to conduct masterclasses at various conservatories across Spain. They have performed multiple times in Poland, Spain, Portugal and the U.S., and have participated in festivals such as PercussionFest in Vigo, Festival Vecindario (León), Partides Festival (Cambrils), China-Europe Festival (POLAND), MATE (Portugal). Their collaboration with percussionist Felix Reyes, with whom they form Symmetrio, has also led to tours in Spain and the U.S. Their performances have been praised for their great unity and interpretative quality, which has earned them first prize at the Villa de Cox National Chamber Music Competition, first prize at the Percute International Chamber Music Competition, second prize at the Re_Cre@ International Chamber Music Competition, and third prize at the Antón García Abril International Chamber Music Competition.
